About Me

My name is Ian Head.

I am a registered member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work to their code of ethics and standards of good practice. I hold an enhanced DBS check and full professional indemnity insurance. I am also registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

I work with adult individuals aged 18 and over. I can offer short and long term face to face therapy in private offices in Northampton and Bedford, or via telephone, or online via Zoom.

Qualifications

One of the main bodies overseeing the accreditation and registration of counsellors in the United Kingdom is the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor, which means I have met their criteria for qualified and experienced therapists and work in accordance with their ethical framework.

How can counselling help you?

We all experience difficult times in our life. Events and situations become complicated and sometimes overwhelming. We can lose sight of who we are, what we want and why we do what we do. Life is challenging and sometimes we need some help.

Talking to a trained professional counsellor is an opportunity to talk to someone who can support you with those challenges. My role as a counsellor is to provide you a space to think and talk about what is happening in your own way; to support you in making sense of what is happening in your world. To hear you and see you. To enable you to examine your past and present experiences to gain a better understanding of them. To think through them with you and together we can create some fresh perspectives of those experiences that will allow you to see them and yourself differently.

Counselling isn’t about providing you with solutions or advice. I will never tell you what to do. It is about empowering you so you figure out your own way and to be able to do that moving forward yourself.

My approach to therapy is psychodynamic counselling. This approach is a non-judgemental way of working that explores why we are who we are. It focusses in on our unconscious ways of thinking and behaving and considers how they are working for us today. We think deeply about the impacts of our inner thoughts and feelings and consider how changes can be made within to achieve our goals.

Speak in Confidence

Counselling takes place in a safe space where you will receive sensitivity and empathy. In my therapy space, you are encouraged to share your thoughts and feelings freely without judgement from me and in the safe knowledge that anything said is held in confidence.

Trouble with a relationships; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression; unable to think or act - many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to manage and withstand. Counselling gives us a set of tools we can use to help gain a better understanding of what’s causing these problems - and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.

Working together I can support you to gain greater insight into the challenges you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, heathier decisions moving forward.

Initial session

Selecting a counsellor can be a daunting and challenging experience

Our initial session will be an opportunity to begin to get to know each other in a safe space. I will ask you some open questions to understand how you are feeling and what has brought you to counselling. It’s also an opportunity to discus your thoughts and what you would like to get from counselling. Sessions usually last 60 minutes.

My location

I work from private offices in the centre of both Northampton and Bedford.

In Northampton, I see clients from the surrounding areas such as Duston, Wootton, Hunsbury, Abington, Weston Favell, Upton, Kingsthorpe and Grange Park.

In Bedford, I see clients from the surrounding areas such as Biddenham, Bromham, Brickhill, Wootton, Kempston and Putnoe

Availability & Fees

Counselling sessions for individuals last 50 minutes, usually taking place on a weekly basis. Initial assessment appointments last up to 60 minutes.


Initial sessions last up to 60 minutes and are charged at £60

Ongoing sessions, usually weekly last for 50 minutes and are charged at £50 per session.

Sessions are paid for in advance by bank transfer or cash payment (within the session)
